Euro Access: For a European Accessibility of Public Transport for People with Disabilities
13-05-2008
Certu is participating in this project, financed as part of the Sixth framework Programme (FP6) Scientific support for Public Policy Link: http://www.euro-access.org
The aim of the Euro Access project is to contribute to the development of a European policy concerning accessible transport, in order to encourage the social integration and active participation of people with disabilities within the 27 member States, as well as two associated countries.
The approach adopted by the Euro Access project involves analysing the legislative frameworks present in the different member States, and reporting the needs and expectations of people with disabilities in terms of public transport accessibility. These two sources of information are used to highlight best practice in terms of accessibility, and to propose a framework for encouraging the transfer of best practices between member States.
Research is organised in four phases:
Work package 1
Review of public policy in force and legal frameworks.
Work package 2
Needs and expectations of people with disabilities in terms of accessible transport, with regard to the link between mobility and access to education and employment, in order to develop a mobility planning framework for people with disabilities.
Work package 3
Best practices and cost-benefit analyses, in order to identify methods that can be used by public decision-makers to transfer best practices to other member States.
Work package 4
Recommendations for the European policy that aims to protect and develop mobility rights for people with disabilities, for the transfer of best practices, and for future research.
