27-09-2011
On the 27 september 2011 in Montpellier (France) will take place the annual «Cities Accessible for All» discussion day (9th edition) dealing with:
« Cities and accessibility in Europe »
Today, ensuring accessibility throughout the transport chain for people with reduced mobility is a major issue for local authorities in France, and forms part of an ambitious and determined wider context nationally and throughout Europe. This day of discussions will therefore being together all parties involved with accessibility – including elected representatives, local councils’ technical services departments, professionals from the private sector, associations and central government departments – in order to put practices and questions into perspective by considering examples from abroad. Feedback from European towns and cities of various sizes, as well as discussion sessions with representatives from French cities and the floor, will be presented with the aim of addressing the following issues: • the internal organisation of local authorities, in order to respond to the challenge of transversality brought about by the vital need for a continuous transport chain for all users; • consultation and cooperation with different groups involved in projects, particularly associations representing disabled people; • enhancements and improvements that have already been implemented or which are currently being designed, including the resources mobilised, with a view to establishing conditions for replication elsewhere.
French / English simultaneous translation will be ensured.
