A road safety policy should be based on three main elements (roads, vehicles and drivers) and on their interactions. It cannot, therefore, be reduced to facilities alone, even though these do have a major role to play.ITS (intelligent transport systems) are now used to substantially improve action, notably insofar as concerns drivers’ behaviour and at the level of interfaces (automated control and punishment systems and driver assistance systems, etc.).
