Slowing down traffic is one of the most effective ways to resolve conflicts in road use, encourage a mix of different transportation modes and improve levels of road safety. According to current regulation, there are two sorts of traffic calming schemes:· 30 km/h zones· and pedestrian areas. The Code de la rue (Street Code), proposes introducing an intermediate zone: the zone de rencontre, or meeting zone.
