France’s ambitious goals insofar as road safety is concerned require changes in the nature and pace of preventive actions to be implemented…Moreover, similar goals are targeted in several developed countries. Some countries have developed programmes, based on a pioneering philosophy or vision, considering the lack of safety as a negative effect of the road transport system. Sweden’s "Vision Zero" policy (aiming for zero serious accidents and no deaths on the road) and Holland’s "sustainable safety" are the most highly-developed concepts that are beginning to show concrete results.
