Transport-on-demand schemes are being developed in response to a demand which regular public transport services fail to provide for adequately: in sparsely populated areas, at off-peak hours, as well as other requirements. In addition to the diversity of experiments in this area, it is essential to provide the authorities in charge of organising public transport with the keys to successfully setting up appropriate and efficient transport-on-demand services.
