Interoperability between transport systems

In a bid to develop efficient and high quality services, the authorities in charge of organising transportation (AOTs) and their operators are making increasing use of information and communication technologies. Nonetheless, the deployment of such systems, which is often costly, does not necessarily guarantee an offer of open and seamless services that can ensure connections between different operators, network management organisations and AOTs. Interoperability between these systems, in other words, the ability to exchange data, coordinate services and even share common solutions, is a major challenge that must be met if they are to ensure not only their future but also the conditions for sustainable mobility. However, it is far from simple to implement this. It is for this reason that the French Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Town and Country Planning (MEEDDAT,) together with Certu, has developed a set of support tools, designed for the AOTs, for their technicians and assistants, to guide them through the processes of designing and deploying such systems: this includes methodological guides, professional reference guides, standards and software tools, providing them with a pool of knowledge and methods that they can draw on and apply.
