Economic and social stakes involved in organising transportation

There are various economic stakes involved in organising transportation: What new resources can be mobilised to finance transport services? How can we control the operating costs of transport systems? What pricing policies should be implemented? What can we learn from the financing systems developed in other countries? Is there a role for public/private partnerships in the transport sector? However, the question of how to organise transport systems also raises some major social issues: How can transport systems best fit in with city policy? How can we organise transportation to meet society’s demands in terms of social pricing, subsidised travel vouchers, anti-crime systems on public transport, etc.?
