Quel est le poids relatif des charges fiscales liées au stationnement par rapport à celles du logement ? Quels sont les choix économiques des ménages qui influent sur leurs pratiques de stationnement ? Quel est l'impact des politiques publiques de tarification préférentielle sur le jeu du marché ? etc.Outre l'apport de repères chiffrés, l'étude met en évidence l'absence de données disponibles et exhaustives qui rend ardue toute démarche d'étude sur les aspects économiques du stationnement résidentiel. Enfin, elle montre le caractère complexe du stationnement résidentiel lié à sa situation "en frontière" de problématiques fortes et souvent contradictoires. Le stationnement résidentiel est en effet en situation d'interface entre l'espace public et l'espace privé d'une part, et entre les politiques publiques d'urbanisme, d'habitat et de déplacements d'autre part.
